2008

Michigan Medical Marihuana Act

Michigan voters approved the Michigan Medical Marihuana Act (MMMA), allowing patients with qualifying conditions to use cannabis for medical purposes with a physician's recommendation.

2014

Medical Marihuana Facilities Licensing Act

Governor Rick Snyder signed legislation creating a licensing and regulatory framework for medical marijuana businesses, including growers, processors, testing facilities, transporters, and provisioning centers.

2018

Farm Bill & Industrial Hemp Research Act

Michigan passed legislation to establish an industrial hemp research program in alignment with the 2018 Federal Farm Bill, which removed hemp (cannabis with less than 0.3% THC) from the controlled substances list.

2018

Michigan Regulation and Taxation of Marihuana Act

Michigan voters approved Proposal 1, legalizing recreational marijuana for adults 21 and older, making Michigan the first Midwestern state to legalize recreational cannabis.

2019

Marijuana Regulatory Agency
